‘California Torture House’ Was A Registered Private School
Following the disturbing discovery of 13 starving siblings held captive by their parents in Southern California, reports surfaced that the suburban home had been registered as a private school, raising questions about state oversight regarding homeschooling. California is one of 15 states that only require a private school affidavit to establish a “private school” as David Allen Turpin, the father of the 13 tortured children, had done for years. Rachel Coleman, executive director of the Coalition for Responsible Home Education, said, “The truth is there are very few states that do have oversight [of home schools].”
